I resisted the lure of the Naf Naf branded jumper for a really long time. Somebody got me one for Christmas in the end. It was a very demure navy blue and I probably only wore a handful of times before it went the way of my Hi-Tec trainers and shell-suit (ie. dramatically out of style and if you were seen wearing one you were sooooo saaaaad). My friends had more vividly coloured ones with "snazzy" letters. There were jackets too, and bags, remember?
And pencil cases and folders and everything. I wonder what Naf Naf are doing now.
I also wonder what will be deemed "vintage" by the kids next. Will I ever be vindicated for holding onto my treasured Global Hypercolour t-shirt because "it'll come back round". Has it yet?
What was your Naf Naf jumper like?
Oooohhhhh Goooooooddddddd
ReplyDeleteI had a red nafnaf t shirt, a grey Naff Co 54 t shirt (off of the market - classy) and a sweatshirt that I cannot for the life of me remember what the brand was but I had.to.have.it. [ARGH just remembered - Ton Sur Ton - quite random]. I used to wear these items with patterned leggings so in some respects was just 20 years ahead of my time.
It is surely only a matter of time before Global Hypercolour is back in. One friend had Global Hypercolour leggings. Not a good idea.
Ton sur ton! There go three words i never thought I'd hear again.... I imagine certain specialist websites would go wild for global hypercolour leggings, they sound a bit kinky. Fifty shades of Hypercolour!

They still have Naf Naf in Belgium! They love it! Honestly!
ReplyDeleteAnd, for the record, mine was red with big multi-coloured letters on it. It was as if they'd been written on with those thick fabric pens that were like cake icing. Do you know what I mean?
Who remembers the Sweater Shop? New York. Milan. London. And, err, Gateshead.
The Sweater Shop!! This has made my day. This and Ton Sur Ton.

I had a Naf Naf bag that my French penfriend gave me before it came over here. I remember being confused by the brand name.
ReplyDeleteHow's the new job going Penny?
The French still love Naf Naf. I've seen it in the shops. Good thanks Rachel- extremely busy but good!

Oh god! Sweater Shop sweater, Sweater Shop duffel bag, Naf Naf and Ton Sur Ton stationery... Also Fruit of the Loom - the grey sweater that EVERYONE had!
ReplyDeleteI had no Naf Naf jumper, later I worked ian department store that sold really nice and stylish Naf Naf clothes and was confused.
ReplyDeleteI remember the whole fruit of the loom thing. I even wrote that the Didache states "though shlat not harm the fruit of the loom" in my RE GCSE. Slight misquote though as it was apparently "the fruit of the womb".
