Mother Hen

Right, people.

This bridesmaid needs YOU.

My best friend is getting married next year. For a myriad of reasons (not least of which that she is a teacher and will need a week off to recover) she is thinking of having her hen THIS SUMMER. So my Hen Hat is firmly on head.

It is a tastefully sparkly hat, and has NO willies on it.

I NEED GAMES.

Not just games, but general inspiration that goes beyond the standard Mr & Mrs/L-Plate wearing stuff. Unusual things, quirky stuff and nice thoughtful things too. Things that will embarrass her a bit, but not too much. Things that will let her know how much her girl friends love her. And some totally ridiculous, off-the-wall competitive tasks.

I reckon across the span of my readers (and I can see you all, HELLO) we must have been to at least a zillion stag and hen parties.

What are the best things you've found? The most fun to take part in? The stuff that made the bride cry because it was so lovely?

Help me, beloved readers!

PS. To a certain someone in NZ who may be reading - how can we get you involved in this from a distance? We must think of something!!

  1. At my hen do, my sister had made up a quiz about me. She got all the hens to sit in pairs opposite each other and asked each pair a question (note, we were staying in a country house on our own, possibly not the best game for public places!). Whoever got it right was fine, whoever got it wrong or didn't answer before their partner, had to put a marshmallow in their mouth and hold it. She then continued down the line asking each pair a question, so that someone out of each pair had a marshmallow in their mouth, and then she started asking the top couple again. It was pretty funny as one poor girl had 4 questions wrong and so 4 marshmallows in her mouth, so she couldn't have answered even if she wanted to! I think she had about 25 questions: where did I go to school, what's my dog called, how many boyfriends have I had, what year and month did I get together with my hubby etc. It was hilarious!

She had also written me a poem about my life and hers, with some hilarious childhood stories and some thoughtful messages. She read it out at the meal and it was a real tear jerker! We have been writing each other stupid poems our whole life so it meant a lot to me.

I was the same, no plastic willies in sight, but it was the PERFECT hen do for me. Good luck!

    1. This is fab!! I love the marshmallows idea, definitely using that somehow, and the bride wrote and read a silly poem about me at my wedding last year so the hen would be the perfect place to return the favour! Thanks MJ!

    2. No problemo! Looking forward to hearing what you get up to, and loving that everyone is trying to insert marshmallows into their favourite hen do game! x

  2. I have no idea what is planned for my hen do in terms of games, I just know that we're going to try and learn to surf at some point during the weekend. I am mildly terrified, and now hoping that marshmallows are involved.

I actually haven't been to a hen before either, as I'm the first of my friends to get married. I'm sorry, I'm no help at all.

  3. My bridesmaid got in touch with everyone that was invited to the hen-do (including those that couldn't make it which was nice) and got them to answer 4 questions about themselves (fave film, food, how we met / something that reminds them of me / song which reminds them of me and their pet's name) and on the night I had to answer the questions. In true rugby player style it was turned into a drinking game (which isn't everyone's idea of fun, granted) whereby if I got the question right everyone else took a drink (or marshmallow??) and if I got it wrong I had to drink (straight brandy - not a fan!).

We also got everyone to draw what they thought my dress would be like on a post-it note with the intention of announcing the winner on the day - we forgot that bit but the drawing bit was fun.

She also pulled a random "why we love steff" game out of the hat while we were in the spa in which everyone had to tell their fave memory of me. It was quite cheesy but completely awesome to hear all the stories.

    Hope that helps!!

    xx
