What I Wore To Work 2: who let the zebras out?

OK I'm hiding them under long, loose-fit black trousers. And this is just another riff on the dark bottom/pale top combination that I seem so far tied to. BUT they are there, and this is a start. I am going to drip my personality into this office, one jazzy shoe at a time.

Seriously though, how do you tell if your office is a super-strict formal dress culture, or if your colleagues are just really boring at fashion?

Anyway. I like this trend for metal-tipped collars, and I really like my new shirt, even though it's cream. I had originally tried it on with a wine-coloured pleat skirt (also from New Look) but, again, too casual. Never mind - even with the blacks trews I feel a bit like a cowboy, which has got to cheer anyone up.

  1. My office is fairly dull when it comes to clothes too, and I LOVE colour. I am an agricultural consultant, so there is a preconception that we should wear browns and greens to match our wellies and the mud! But I still go out in my bright jade cardigan, colourful patterned top and funky jewellery. As long as it's smart, I don't think colour is a problem, though some farmers remark that pearls are not suited to the farmyard, but I disagree! I have never worked in a conventional city office though, so I can imagine it's a whole different kettle of fish, but I think if it's not mentioned in your contract, you can wear zebra print if you like!

  2. I'm so lucky that I can dress pretty much however I want for work (unless I have meetings). Loving the new shirt! Very you I think. Maybe have a word with a friendly senior bod and ask about the dress culture? Or there might be something in your contract.

  3. I can't quit colour so think I would really struggle with the dress code where you are. I also hate wearing black.

I think good shoes (and these are good shoes) should always be loved universally, though I wear a certain pair less since a colleagues asked me where my whip was (um...)
